According to the oil ministry, the pricing system aims to minimize international oil prices and pass through to consumers.
First of all, new prices will be effective every 6 o'clock. Earlier, the decision was to change them at midnight, because oil companies were forced to change this because the pump owners threatened to protest and go for the strike.
The reason for their resentment was that companies did not put automated systems to change prices and therefore need manual deployment.

Indian Oil has said that the change in the daily price is an initiative to ensure better prices to consumers and improve the transparency in the pricing mechanism.
